Day 6: Cliffs of Moher and Aran Islands tour

Today marks a tour booked months ago: The Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher day tour. We weren’t quite sure what we were in for but boy was it literally THE PERFECT DAY!

It began with us meeting our bus outside of our hotel. There were many Coach buses yet none of them were for our tour. Luckily, the tour company called us and let us know that the bus was waiting on the street. So glad that they called! We were the first pick up which means we were the first on the bus and our tour guide, Patrick, allowed us to sit in the first two seats so we could have the best views of the day. Also so I wouldn’t get carsick- but I was prepared for the day with wearing a motion sickness patch behind my ear!

We picked up the rest of the people at the city centre and headed for Doolin. We arrived into the quaint fishing village with just enough time to get in line for the express ferry to the smallest of the three islands, Inis Oírr, pronounced Inisheer. 

The ferry ride was about 20 minutes long. When we arrived, our guide asked who wanted a bicycle, E bike, horse and buggy ride, or planned to just walk the 3 km wide island. Fran opted to walk while I was all about the E bike…and it was worth every euro! 














After about an hour and 15 on the island, we boarded a larger ferry and took off to see the Cliffs of Moher from the water. The camera truly doesn’t do any of the views justice. After parallel riding with the cliffs and hearing some history from the ferry operators, we disembarked and boarded the bus for the 10 minute ride to the top of the cliffs for an alternate view. On the way we stopped at a local pub for lunch and Bailey coffees.

Boy, was it spectacular! It was hard to believe that there were cows on the top, but there were!

Riding on a Coach bus on the very narrow roads of Ireland’s countryside was at times….let’s see…nerve racking?! Check out some of these close encounters!

Day 2 & 3: Dublin & Belfast

 Well…there was no post yesterday if you are keeping notes. Let’s recap here: Saturday, June 15: We woke up around 9:00 and took our time getting ready for the day - it was “festival day”! Bloomsday is June 16 but the festivals happen over a series of days in the city. We planned to stop into the Bloomsday James Joyce festival in the morning and then head to the Taste of Dublin festival in the afternoon. Instead, we decided to hop on the Hop On, Hop Off bus tour and get to know the city of Dublin better! We are so glad we did—-the guides were all wonderful and we got to see literally everything. We hopped off and on a few times. We booked the Book Of Kells experience at Trinity College for 6:00pm (only time slot available when we stopped in around 11:00), then we hopped off and had a tour and tasting of Jameson’s Distillery triple distilled whiskey. T-9 days...single digit countdown!

 Our fellowship commences in just 9 days. Wow! After all of the long days and longer evenings of planning, writing, planning, writing, planning (you get the idea!!) it all will come to fruition. We cannot wait to use this platform to share our travel stories with you. Our itinerary is well stocked, our rental car is waiting, our self trainings on road safety have been completed, and our bags are packed (almost!) Please follow along and explore Ireland with us! Day 1 - Travel Day!

 Current time in Ireland: 7:35PM. Current time in Connecticut: 2:35pm. We have been up since 7:30am CT time….yesterday! What a long day it has been!  Let’s recap. We arrived at Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, NY around 5:00pm on Thursday the 13th. Our flight was delayed by about an hour which meant arriving into Iceland for our layover late. We arrived at 6:00am and our connecting flight was already boarded with the doors closing! We were in Iceland for literally 25 minutes from the time we touched down to took off. WHEW!! We did have to walk off the plane and take a bus to the actual terminal - so since we were outside in Iceland, we can officially check it off our list of countries visited! Since we’ve been up for about 35 hours, a better summary of our first day will come tomorrow after a good night’s sleep.
