We are fairly early on this day so that we could enjoy another homemade breakfast by our new bed-and-breakfast host Noreen. She made wonderful omelettes. Then we got on the road for our longest ride out of the entire trip to Dingle. Google maps said it would take just about three hours. We arrived in just under three hours which is usually unheard of in Ireland. It wasn’t because we were traveling fast, by any means, it was that there was probably farm traffic that we got lucky enough to miss! Before we left town though, we went back into Bunratty to the folk village and castle tour. It was medevial and definitely took us back in time.
Yesterday, on the way to Rathbaun Farm, we stopped in the village of Clarinbridge and decided to head into a small café, Goats Lane Café for a coffee. It turned out to be one of our favorite stops, we chatted with the owner about the sweets that she offered and her daughters schooling and exams.
(I forgot to add that to yesterdays post!)
We continued on our journey for the longest ride to Dingle. It was fairly foggy for the entire ride which made for some really cool mountain photos.
We arrived around 3 o’clock and checked into our final bed and breakfast. Our last two accommodations are hotels. We had tickets to hold a baby lamb, so after we checked in we got back in the car and headed 8 miles on slea head drive to an interesting establishment. Clearly it was an older Irishman that owns beautiful property and sells €4 tickets to spend 20 minutes cuddling his baby lambs. On the way there we pulled off to snap a few photos of two donkeys on the side of the road. Slea Head is really supposed to be one way, but often locals use it as two. Tomorrow we plan to drive the entire loop!
On the ride back to our B & B we saw a sign for a leather workshop. We took the ride down the very narrow winding passageway which led us to Holden‘s Leather Workshop. A true hidden gem. We met Mr. Holden himself who was very excited to give us a tour!
Finally, we went into town center and enjoyed our dinner at The Fish Box. This restaurant came highly recommended from our new B&B host, Orla, because the family who owns The Fish Box also are fisherman and their claim to fame is that everything they serve comes directly from their boat.
It did not disappoint!
